New Review: Parris Afton Bonds’ BLUE MOON – Exciting Love Story set in a time of revolution in Pancho Villa’s Mexico

Original cover
Set in 1916 in Washington, D.C., Texas and Mexico, this is the story of Roxana Van Buren, who, though born to an aristocratic family, wants to become a journalist. And it’s the story of Sam Brady, who wanted to be a general and earn the right to marry Roxana’s sister, Rowena. He did well at West Point and as a young officer, that is, until an unfortunate incident resulted in his being dishonorably discharged for conduct unbecoming an officer.

After the debacle of his failed military career, Sam forgot his dreams and headed to Texas where he became an Army scout. Roxana headed west, too, trying to prove herself as a cub reporter. She hoped to gain an interview with the revolutionary Pancho Villa, but there was much competition from reporters gathering to report on Mexico’s insurgency.
eBook cover
And who does Roxana hire to escort her when General Pershing decides to invade Mexico to hunt Pancho Villa? Sam Brady, of course. And he takes the job because he is going that way, scouting for the general’s forces, and Sam needs the money for a ranch he wants to buy.

Together, Roxana and Sam take on the Mexican desert and the rebel army.

This is a well-written tale of adventure and reluctant love set in a time of revolution in a foreign land. Bonds brings you right into that time, and you see the beauty of the Sierra Madre mountains, the Mexican desert with its blowing sands, heat, and vicious Indians and revolutionaries, and the meager rations of an army on the move. Some historic figures are characters, including General Pershing and Lt. George Patton, both of whom would become war heroes in the years to follow.

Pancho Villa and his men

Sam wanted the sweet, manipulating Rowena, but what a man like Sam—a leader of men—really needed was a woman like Roxana. And he found her in the Mexican desert with a view of the Sierra Madre Mountains. You’ll love this story, I promise!

  1. Regan, thank you for the wonderful review. The way you so easily condense a story into a few simple but informative lines ~ well, I do wish you could write blurbs for me. I don’t know how you find time to do all the other talented things you do ~ write, read, review books, etc. You are amazing.

    2. Barbara, I do hope your enjoy Blue Moon. In initially researching it, I interviewed an old woman in a senior citizen's facility in El Paso. She had been Lt. Patton's 'girlfriend' when he was posted to Fort Bliss, this despite his being very married. Oh, if I could only have written some of the things that old woman told me.

      Dancing on sunshine,
      Parris
