Set in the Regency era, this is the story of Glee Pembroke, who has turned down countless offers of marriage because she has secretly been in love with her brother’s best friend, Gregory Blankenship (“Blanks”) her whole life. When she learns Gregory will lose his inheritance if he does not soon wed, she tricks him into a marriage of convenience. He thought they would have great fun with no responsibility, but he finds himself acting the protective and seduced husband while she tests his resolve by flirting with his friends and wearing daring gowns.
There is the inevitable misunderstanding, and the heartbreak—and the reconciliation. Some readers though the ending was rushed. Still, if you are a fan of Bolen’s Regency stories, you’ll likely be satisfied.
