Best Scottish Historical Romances!

As Geddes MacGregor once said, “No one in Scotland can escape from the past. It is everywhere, haunting like a ghost." Scotland’s past is the subject of my list below, romance novels I have come to love that are set in the past of Scotland, most in that magical part of Scotland called the Highlands. 1. I would add "The Morna's Legacy Series" by Bethany Claire. It's time travel/romance/castles/paranormal with Morna's playing a matchmaker through time.

    1. Oh, Winona, I don't read books like that. I prefer straight historical romance. Sorry.

  2. My favourite Scottish romance of all time is Clandara, by Evelyn Anthony - so passionate and brutal. It's an old one, I think from the 1960s! But I reread it recently and it was as powerfully romantic as I remembered when I first picked it up.

  3. Under the 'not my usual reading' would be The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley. It is a great historical about the 1708 attempt by the Jacobites to return King James Stuart III to the throne of England, and it is a sweet romance.

    1. Thanks, Nancy. I have two of her books, including that one, on the "to read" shelf but I thought they had paranormal in them... no? And by "sweet" do you mean no love scenes?

  4. Im wondering if anyone can help me? I read a book many years ago (potentially written in the 80s or earlier) about a scottish princess(?) who is attacked while out walking and loses her memory. She is rescued by irish princes who have been imprisoned in scotland and have escaped. They make it back to Ireland and their castle and one brother and the woman fall in love. The man responsible for her attack tracks her to ireland and tries to take her away. She gets her memory back eventually and stays in Ireland with him.

    1. Ellie, that doesn't sound familiar but you might check my Best Irish Historical Romances to see if any of the titles sound like the one you are looking for since the hero is Irish.
