Lorraine Heath’s TEXAS DESTINY – Texas after the Civil War, a Western Romance with Great Heart…a Keeper!

Set in Texas in 1876, this is the story of two wounded souls. Broken by the horrors she has seen in the Civil War, and hoping for a new life, Amelia Carson agrees to become the mail order bride of budding Texas rancher, Dallas Leigh. Since he was injured by an untamed stallion, he sends his brother, Houston, to fetch Amelia from the train station in Ft. Worth.

Houston has been gravely scarred from his time in the war and only reluctantly agrees to bring Dallas’ bride to the ranch. In the month-long journey, they face the trials of the road: snakes, storms and flooding rivers—and they fall in love.

Houston fights his attraction for Amelia, knowing he must deliver her untouched. But they have grown close and, when they arrive at the ranch, Dallas notices.

This is a wonderful, well-told story that kept me turning pages. The descriptions of the dangers Houston and Amelia face are so well done, they’ll have you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well developed and the stage is set for the next two stories of Dallas and the younger brother, Austin.

Highly recommended.

Lorraine Heath’s LORD OF WICKED INTENTIONS – A Victorian Story of Redemption and Second Chances

Set in the mid-1800s, this is the third in the Lost Lords of Pembrook trilogy. Had I known that, I might have started with book 1. By the time we get to Rafe’s story, it is clear that much has taken place in the lives of the three brothers who were imprisoned by an uncle. But they escaped awaiting the day when they would return to reclaim their birthright.

Lord Rafe Easton was the one who escaped to survive on his own in the streets of St. Giles. Now the owner of a successful gambling hall, he is wealthy and has shunned his two brothers who left him in a workhouse as a child. He is bitter and determined to need or love no one…until Eve comes into his life.

After her father's death, Miss Evelyn Chambers, an earl's illegitimate daughter, thinks her half brother intends to find her a husband as he promised her father he would see to her needs. However, he has in mind something quite different and offers her to the highest bidder among the lords who want a new mistress. And Rafe Easton, invited to the bidding because Evelyn’s brother owes him much, decides to have her.

When Evelyn is taken to Rafe Easton’s home, she assumes it’s to be his housekeeper. She is shocked to learn he expects her to be his mistress.

A great story of redemption and the power of love to change a heart. I enjoyed this story and will read more of the trilogy. Lorraine Heath’s stories are always emotion-packed and powerful. A wonderful Victorian romance.

Lorraine Heath WHEN THE DUKE WAS WICKED – A Steamy Regency Well Told

Lady Grace Mabry’s large inheritance has made it impossible for her to tell whether a suitor is in love with her—or whether he is just in need of funds. So she decides to ask her childhood friend, the Duke of Lovingdon, to assist. After all, since the wife he loved died, he has had many women.

I loved this story, the chemistry between the leads, the secondary characters (some of whom will no doubt be featured in the rest of the series). Even though I knew how it would end, I enjoyed Lady Grace’s subtle manipulation…or was she really lying to herself?

Lovingdon was a wonderful character, imparting all sorts of advice to Grace. But his lessons become more intimate and soon lead to passion between them. Against her better judgment, Grace falls in love. Lurking about is another man, also a member of the ton, who decides to force her to marry him.

It’s a great first book in the series as it introduces you to the men who will populate the books and conveys their relationships with each other. The emotion is rich and will draw you in. Grace is a sympathetic figure and, really, only Lovingdon will do.
